Why I Teach Hungarian
A Personal Story (and Why It Matters for Your Learning Journey)
When people ask me why I teach Hungarian, I always smile, because the answer is both simple and deeply personal. Teaching my native language is more than a profession. It is a bridge between cultures, a way to connect people, and a path that has shaped my identity in ways I never expected.
Born in Hungary, Shaped by the World
I was born and raised in Hungary, but I consider myself a world citizen.
I’ve spent ten years living in Italy (Sicily) and the last seven years in Portugal. Experiencing these cultures taught me more than any book ever could. I learned how to see life from different perspectives, both with the deep understanding of a resident and the curiosity of a foreigner.
This unique combination deeply influences the way I teach Hungarian. I know what it feels like to adapt, to learn a new language, and to navigate a new culture from scratch.
The Life Lessons That Started It All
My mother played a huge role in shaping my worldview. She taught me two invaluable lessons:
- You can do anything you set your mind to.
- “The world is your oyster.”
To me, this phrase has always meant freedom, exploration, and endless curiosity.
She passed on her love for traveling, languages, art, architecture, music, and, most importantly, the ability to find joy in the small details of everyday life. She always said:
“Language learning is the key to understanding people better.”
Those words became the foundation of my personal and professional life.
From Passion to Connecting Hungary
Because of this passion for languages and teaching, I eventually created Connecting Hungary, a platform where learners from around the world can discover not only the Hungarian language, but also its culture, traditions, and everyday expressions.
More materials and resources can be found on my Facebook page: Hungarian Lessons by a Magyar Native and in my Facebook group: Hungarian Hub – Language & Culture.
Through Connecting Hungary, I provide online lessons, learning resources, and support tailored to each student’s goals, whether it’s travel, work, family, or personal enrichment. My mission is to make Hungarian accessible, enjoyable, and meaningful, while helping students feel confident using it in real life.
My Love for the Hungarian Language
My devotion to the Hungarian language has always been a guiding force. Hungarian is unique, poetic, expressive, and deeply rooted in history. Growing up in Hungary allowed me to absorb not only the vocabulary but also the idioms, humor, emotions, and rhythm of everyday life.
Sharing this heritage with learners from around the world brings me immense joy.
From Corporate Life to a Calling in Education
Before becoming a Hungarian teacher, I spent many years working in multinational corporate environments, holding leadership positions and managing high-pressure responsibilities. I enjoyed the challenges but longed for something deeper, human connection and meaningful impact.
Teaching gave me exactly that. It allowed me to combine:
- clarity
- structure
- empathy
- creativity
…into something that genuinely helps others.
A Strong Foundation in Teaching and Language Education
I am also an English teacher with a Master’s degree in TESOL from a prestigious university in the UK. With more than 20 years of classroom teaching experience, language education has been at the heart of my professional life.
I speak five foreign languages, and I’m always learning more, because for me, learning languages is a lifelong passion. This helps me understand exactly what my students go through. I know the fears, the frustrations, the joy, and the breakthroughs. I’ve been on the other side many times.
This allows me to teach with empathy, precision, and real understanding.

…makes every moment worthwhile.
I believe learning Hungarian is a bridge to deeper cultural understanding and a path to new personal and professional opportunities. My goal is not just to teach you Hungarian, but to help you experience it so naturally that it becomes part of who you are.
